RESIDENCE in Egremont, MA

Featured In The New York Times

On fifteen acres in the foothills of the Berkshires, a 19th-century farmhouse and an 1820s barn were renovated into a multigenerational family home.

The barn's post-and-beam frame, with its 200-year-old chestnut timbers, was lifted, set on a new foundation, and rebuilt as two separate residences, then repainted a dusty blue that echoes the haze on the surrounding mountains.

The farmhouse returned to its original scale with the removal of a large rear addition, and its exterior profile was kept while the porch was opened to light, air, and views of the Taconic Mountains. Baldwin Hill is a historic renovation and barn conversion in Egremont that adapts a former farm to the way a family lives now.
